Privacy Policy
1. Who we are
Werewolf Party (the "app") is published by Cherry Pub LLP, registered office 71-75 Shelton Street, Covent Garden, London, England, WC2H 9JQ, company number OC431055 ("we", "us").
We are the controller of the personal data described here. Contact: app@greentomatomedia.com.
This policy covers the Werewolf Party apps for iOS and Android and the web page players use to join a game at werewolfparty.web.app, and this website (werewolf-party-app.web.app). It does not cover other websites, including gtmapp.com, or the App Store and Google Play, which have their own policies.
2. The short version
- There are no accounts and no sign-in. We give each phone a random anonymous ID so it can join a room.
- To play, you type a nickname. Your nickname is seen by the other players in your room.
- A game room holds only nicknames and the state of the game. The host's app deletes the room when the host leaves the game, and any room left behind is deleted automatically after 12 hours.
- There are no ads, no analytics, no crash-reporting tools and no cross-app tracking. We never sell or rent your data.
- Premium is bought and paid through the App Store or Google Play. We never see your card or bank details.
- You can ask us to delete your data at any time: see section 8.
3. What we collect and why
3.1 When you play
- Anonymous player ID. Firebase Authentication creates a random ID for your phone or browser so it can join a room and reconnect. It contains nothing about you.
- Nickname. The host types a nickname in the app, and each player types one on the join page. Your nickname is stored in the room so everyone can see who is playing.
- Game rooms. When the host starts a game, a room is stored on our server: the room code, the host's settings and language, each player's nickname, seat, whether they are still in the game and connected, and the game itself: the secret roles, the night choices, the votes, the public story of the game (for example "Maya was taken in the night") and the result. If eliminated players play the Wolf Run mini-game, the best distance and the nickname of the player who ran it are stored in the room too. Bots are computer players.
- Secret roles. Your role and your night choices can be read only by your own phone and the host's app. The host's app runs the game but never shows anyone's role or night choice on its screen.
- Joining with a QR code. Players scan the room's QR code with their phone's own camera app, which opens the join page. Werewolf Party does not use your camera and receives no image.
3.2 Premium (iOS and Android apps only)
- Premium is an auto-renewing subscription bought and paid through the App Store or Google Play. We never see your card or bank details.
- The app asks the App Store or Google Play on your phone whether your subscription is active. We do not run a purchase server and do not store your purchase history.
- Your free game of the day is counted on your phone.
- Players who join from the web page never pay and are never asked to.
3.3 Ratings
If you choose to rate the app, the rating window is shown by Apple or Google, who receive your rating and review under their own policies. We do not receive anything from that window except the public review on the store.
3.4 Keeping the service working
- Server logs. Like any online service, Google (which hosts our database and the join page) logs technical data such as IP addresses when your device connects. We do not use them to identify you.
- The narration, sounds and texts are built into the app. Apart from the game rooms, the app only loads pages from our own join site (for example the Wolf Run mini-game in How to play).
3.5 What we do not do
We do not collect your email address, phone number, contacts, photos, location or advertising ID. We do not use analytics or crash-reporting tools, show ads, use advertising cookies, track you across other companies' apps or websites, or sell or share your personal data for advertising.
4. Data table
| Data | Purpose | Where it is stored / who processes it | How long we keep it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Anonymous player ID (Firebase uid) | Let your device join a room, reconnect and protect the room | Google Firebase Authentication | The random ID stays in Firebase Authentication; it holds nothing about you and can no longer be linked to you once you uninstall the app or clear your browser data |
| Game rooms (code, settings, nicknames, seats, connection status, roles, night choices, votes, game story, result, Wolf Run best distance) | Run the game in real time on everyone's phone | Firebase Realtime Database (EU, europe-west1) | Deleted by the host's app when the host leaves the game. If the host's app closes before that, it deletes the room the next time it is opened. Any room still there 12 hours after it was created is deleted automatically within the following hour. You can also ask us to delete a room (section 8) |
| Subscription status | Unlock Premium | Checked on your phone with the App Store or Google Play; not stored by us | Apple and Google keep their own purchase records under their policies |
| Preferences on your device (host app: your nickname, whether you play too, language, sound setting, onboarding done, free game of the day, when to ask for a rating, and the codes of rooms still to delete; join page: your random player ID, the mute setting and your Wolf Run best) | Remember your settings | Your device only (join page: your browser's storage) | Until you uninstall the app or clear the app's or browser's data |
| Support messages | Answer you | Our email | 2 years after the case is closed |
| Server connection logs (IP address, time) | Security, reliability | Google Cloud / Firebase | 30 days |
5. Who can see your data
- Players in your room: your nickname, your seat, whether you are still in the game, your public votes, the public story of the game and the result. Anyone with the room code or QR code can open the room while it exists.
- Your role and night choices: only your own phone and the host's app, which never shows them on screen.
- Service providers who process data on our behalf and under contract: Google (Firebase Authentication, Realtime Database, Cloud Functions and Hosting).
- Apple and Google process your purchases and ratings as independent controllers under their own terms.
- Authorities when the law requires it, and a buyer of our business if the app is sold (you will be told).
We do not sell or rent personal data, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising.
6. Where your data is stored
Game rooms are stored by Google in the European Union (europe-west1, Belgium). Firebase Authentication and Firebase Hosting may process data in the United States or other countries. When a provider receives data from the UK or EEA outside those areas, we rely on adequacy decisions (such as the EU-US Data Privacy Framework and its UK extension where the provider is certified) or Standard Contractual Clauses.
7. Legal bases (EU and UK users)
- Contract: to run the game, the rooms and your subscription.
- Legitimate interests: security and keeping the service reliable. You can object (section 9).
- Legal obligation: answering lawful requests.
8. Deleting your data
Werewolf Party has no accounts, so there is no account to delete. Here is how each piece of data goes away:
- Game rooms (nicknames, roles, votes and the rest of the game) are deleted by the host's app when the host leaves the game, or the next time the host opens the app if it closed before that. Any room still there 12 hours after it was created is deleted automatically.
- Data on your device is removed when you uninstall the app. Players who joined from the web page can clear their browser data.
- Your anonymous player ID stays in Firebase Authentication but holds nothing about you and can no longer be linked to you once the app is uninstalled or the browser data is cleared.
To ask us to delete your data, email app@greentomatomedia.com with the subject "Werewolf Party: delete my data" and, if you have it, the room code shown in the lobby. We delete the room and everything in it and confirm within 30 days.
Premium is billed by Apple or Google: deleting the app does not cancel your subscription. Cancel it in your App Store or Google Play settings. Apple and Google keep their own purchase records under their policies.
9. Your rights
Depending on where you live (for example the EU, UK, or US states such as California), you can ask us to: access your data or get a copy; correct it; delete it; restrict or object to processing based on legitimate interests; and withdraw consent at any time. We do not sell or "share" personal data for targeted advertising, and we do not use it for decisions with legal effects about you. We will not treat you differently for using your rights.
Email app@greentomatomedia.com. We answer within one month (45 days under US state laws). As there are no accounts, we may ask for the room code and your nickname to find your data.
You can also complain to your data protection authority, for example the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk) or the authority in your EU country.
10. Children
Werewolf Party is meant for players aged 13 and over. If the age at which you can consent to data processing online is higher where you live (for example 16 in some EU countries), you need a parent's or guardian's permission to buy a subscription. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. If you think a child under 13 has given us personal data, contact us and we will delete it.
11. Security
All data travels over encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS). Every device must have its anonymous ID before it can read a room. Database rules let only the host's app run the game, let each player write only their own seat and choices, and keep each secret role readable only by its owner and the host's app. Rooms can only be opened with their code. Access to our consoles is limited to the people who run the game. No system is perfectly secure, and we will notify you and the authorities of a breach when the law requires it.
12. Changes to this policy
We will update this page when our practices change and change the date at the top. For important changes, we will also tell you in the app before they take effect.
